Done With Rayon
I recently bought a lot clothes that were on clearance, and some are made with rayon and spandex 95/5. They are horrible. The OFF AIR by Giuliana Allover Quote Tee 430-019 was pilling after one wash. I have a clothes shaver and it takes care of that, but the fabric is still fuzzy. The shaver takes some of the fuzz off but it can still be seen. I paid around $20 at the sale price (with shipping), the original price was $60.
The From the Set by Lori Eskowitz-Carter Embellished Peacock Hoodie 444-450, original price $90 plus shipping, is pilling just a little around the sleeve cuffs. I’ve worn it probably about six times (haven’t washed yet).
At these prices, the garments should last the entire season at least. I’m very careful washing my clothes, even tee shirts and jeans. I hand wash most of my tops, and hang or lay flat to dry. Really glad I didn’t pay full price.
But I did pay full price for three G by Giuliana Ultra Soft A-Line Tank 461-053 and they are the 95/5 rayon/spandex fabric. I’m going to keep them and hope for the best, not sure if I’ll get more colors. They are the perfect size and length for me, which is so very difficult to find. Maybe I’ll invest in sewing machines and make my own.
I bought the Ultra Soft Draped Jacket by Guiliana ITEM 461-046, and have worn it a number of times, although not washed it, and it is also pilling. I don’t know a lot about fabrics but I don’t think it should pill after wearing maybe 10 times. As DazedAndConfused said, these shouild last. I spent much more on this jacket than I normally do, but Iove the color and style. I’ll think twice about anything in this type of sweatshirty material.
I find they wrinkle terribly. I have several dresses I haven’t even worn yet because the full skirts are a wrinkled mess. Love the dresses but even after washing and laying flat to dry the skirt looks like accordion pleats not just a full skirt. Very sad!
Dazedandconfused, maybe something like Woolite on handwash? I hate to have a garment that I like go bad because of cleaning issues. I bought a beautiful off the shoulders Black sweater about four years ago and had that knotty pilling problem. I took care of the sweater, but it didn’t love me. LOL.
When I wear it now I get out the packing tape and pull as much of it up as I can!:womanfrustrated:
dazed also use a laundry bag and avoid washing rayon w/ tougher stuff like towels and jeans
I hope it works!
dazed I fell ya! I actually like rayon because it is breathable and soft. But i do hv to baby it. I wash on cold or warm/cold on the gentle cycle and the dreaded hang or lay flat to dry.
i don’t do well in poly so it is worth the extra work for me.
it does not pill on me when i baby it like this.
