Classy or Elegant Clothing
Which designer do you feel brings class to her line? I’ve seen Iman mentioned a few times in this regard but is there anybody else whose clothing defines class or sophistication or elegance without being matronly?
Hi Pamlou….wow I hope HSN does not get mad at me for returning. I buy quite a bit in many different catagories. I have to pay for the returns and clothes are so inconsistant in sizing.
Cowl neck sweater colors are straw and ivory. Bought the matching knit skirts and black too. Great fit for me. Skirt was size M I’m usually an 8 or 10 but I kept the small in the cowl neck. I ordered the 3/4 patterned sweater in black/white/straw combo and small was good. Tops I can usually take a 10 or 12. It is so hard to tell what size to order. I just received a MW duster blouse in black (darling) and the med was right. This blouse/dress is very contemporary with the pulls at the bottom. Posters helped me with the sizing on the reviews. Hope this helps.
Hi Pamlou. For me I have enjoyed quite a few of Colleen’s pieces. I have worn a bandage skirt of CL from a few years back so many times. I saw one similar for much more at NM. Love her evening tops. N Natori is wonderful after you get the sizing down. For me I am willing to order two sizes and return one. I just received Marla W cowl sweater and knit pencil skirt and they are fabulous. Getting the right size makes all the difference and sometimes that’s hard but I feel I have some very unique pieces and I always get compliments.
I like the look of Hal Rubenstein’s leather items. Just wish the dresses and skirts were a bit longer in the hem line. Was looking forward to more things for this fall/winter, but see none so far. Maybe I missed it?
We can’t leave out Marla Wynn or Diane Gilman. I love Iman too. All three designers’ clothing line defines class, sophistication and elegance. None are matronly at all. I also like Anthony, Wendy Williams and Serena’s line of clothing. I have made purchases from all of them. I also get a much better fit, than when shopping at the mall department stores. My body shape has changed over the years, (baby-boomer). Yes, I believe each all of these designers have us (baby-boomers) in mind when they are designing their line of clothing. That’s what I like most about each of them.
Many here do Classy but not elegant imo. Maybe Nikki Poulous, Iman, Hal Rubenstein, Jones New York. Vince Camuto, Serena Williams, Wendy Williams, Liz Lange, Colleen Lopez. These designers have some pieces that are Classy. For the sake of this discussion, I will assume you mean “Classy” as in good taste.
Much of what HSN offers is trend and/or “fast fashion.” I like a lot of it so I don’t mind it. For elegant clothing for special events, weddings and such, you won’t find this at HSN. When I hear the word “elegant” I think of formal attire that’s a little flashy.
I think they all bring class to their line IF you pick out the classic pieces each offers. Are there some that I find to be a bit out there? Yes but again, if you look closely, you can find something that is classic/elegant.
There are only so many ways to design a T, slim cut pants, a cardigan, etc. So, in the end, they all offer something that fits this category ( I think).
Have to say, IMAN makes up the bulk of clothing ordered from HSN, though Diane Gillman’s cashmere sweaters were a huge hit with me and those who received them for Christmas last year. In fact, that sweater is a perfect example: just about every line is offering a tank/turtleneck and duster right now- classic design but the FABRIC is what can make it not as classy depending on your taste.
Marla is classic casual elegance, in my humble.
I also love Colleen’s point of view on her dressier things.
Hal brings very pretty dresses. Ladylike. Not stuffy or matronly.
Sexy skirted separates at affordable prices are Wendy Williams wheelhouse.
And lastly, have you seen the latest from Serena? WOW!
Iman is by far my favorite. I think if you get the right pieces from Marla Wynne, they can be very sophisticated without being matronly. I think a lot of it is how you accessorize. I love Serena Williams but I go to her for athleisure clothes not sophisticated clothes.
