Can Someone Please Recommend a Flattering Bra for a Full-Figured Woman?
I need a bra that will give great lift and be comfortable and of course, flattering. Anyone have one they can recommend? I know Marla Wynn, when on air, always says what a difference a good bra makes. I am large chested, like she is, and I like how she looks. That would make a huge difference in how clothes fit. Do any of you have one you love and would highly recommend? I would so appreciate hearing from you. I know you are suppose to have professional fit, which I have. I am a 40D or 40DD. Please give me your recommendations. Thanks!!!
The best way to find the most flattering bra for you is to try on several different brands. Not all will fit you the same, even if they’re the same size. Two women that are the same bra size won’t necessarily be able to wear all the same bras.
Also, be aware of your posture. It makes a big difference.
Wacoal makes the best bras for full figured woman. The Ahh bra does not give any support or good shape to a DD cup, I know I am a 36DD. I have been wearing Wacoal for decades.
LOVE,LOVE,LOVE the Elomi EL8740NUE t-shirt bra. Seamless with extra lace panel to keep you in on the sides. A little pricey but occasionally goes on sale. Find online for larger sizes. As always, hand wash by hand or hand wash cycle in machine. You too will fall in LOVE.
Google “sister size” for bras. You will come upon a list that will help you determine your “other sizes.” For instance if you’re a 38D a sister size would allow you to wear two wear a 36DD or a 40C. This gives you more options for bra shopping.
I personally prefer Wacoal bras and they are the only bras that don’t fluctuate in size for me. According to the sister sizing chart you could wear a 38DDor a 42C (based on your 40D size).
I have been wearing, very comfortably I must say, Playtex 48 hour in 46C down from 48C no wire, hook front bra for the last 15 or so years. Hook front because I have no range of motion so I can’t do back hooks. Good luck.
I love Bali..”Satin Tracings”..
Have been using the same style for years..
They have a wonderful fit..When they get a little shabby…I take out the underwires and use them as my “sleeping bra”..Can’t sleep without a bra..
I’m a 38DD and have worn the Chico’s Soma bras for years. The fit is perfect and everthing looks good especially Ts and sweaters. They are extremely comfortable and easy to care for.
I hear you on your quest!! I buy either 38DD or 40D depending on brand. Recently I purchased vanity fair beauty back full figure contour bra 76380 in 38 DD. Snug almost returned but love these. I’m lifted up whereas before I always looked too saggy but the contour bra lifts and gives a very nice shape. I did buy my on sale at $13.00. And now I think they are 40. I bought from Macy’s
Have you heard of Soma? I have not tried them but wonder about it.
My last batch of bra’s came from Kolhs, and they carry all sorts of sizes and brands you might be familiar with and find in the affordable range.
My all time favorite bra was Olga’s minimizes. The style I purchased was discontinued many many years ago.
Years ago I tired Nordstroms,a nd still have that bra, but hardly wear it and think I prefer Kolhs.
Let us know what you find.
You will probably have to go somewhere and have one fitted. I looked on line in my area and found a wonderful place that fit me with the perfect bra. The bras will cost more but they are well worth it. I am due to get a couple more. Good luck.:smileyvery-happy:
I second the suggestion to do a good fitting, It is awfully difficult to recommend something like that because it depends on your shape a lot not just pure numbers. For example, I never fill out Lane Bryants’ bras correctly; I once spent three excruciating hours trying on every bra in Lane Bryant and did not find even one that fit.
Personally, I have been living in Bali bras (the one with the little bow in the front) they have no underwires and are comfortable for me.
Sharpmd- Do you have a Nordstrom’s near where you live? They have wonderful bra fitters there who will correctly measure you & bring several to you in the dressing room & assist you with finding the perfect fit that will lift you & bring you in at the side which will make you appear slimmer as well as help your blouses that button not gape. I went there with my sister & she is about your size & she came home with bra brand that was Chantelle. Hope this helps & the wonderful thing with Nordstrom’s is they have a no hassle return policy if you are not satisfied. With the proper fitted bra she looked 20 lbs slimmer. Best wishes to you 🙂
