My boyfriend wants to go to a water park every summer. I have said no thank u for 4 years. I think I am ready to go this year, for I am getting well and need to participate in life. But I will need a bathing suit! I do not want to go to the store. I have horrible anxiety and wish I could just buy one here. Where should I look online? Can I even go through w this? What if I don’t look good in a suit? What if I see someone at the water park that I know?
I have one, bought it in Mexico and fits like a glove
and no slipping.
Quality in US will never compare..JMHO
I have read all of your generous comments and suggestions but am still having trouble finding a suit. I think a monokini is a good idea for riding the slides. I have searched the sites y’all recommended and the brands all start at hip sizes that I don’t think will stay in place…
Swimsuits For All – 38″ hip
Victoria’s Secret – 36″ hip
Venus – 34.5″
Today my hips r 33″
I wemt through an awful event that changed my life, so in a way I can somewhat imagine what you are going through. From reading your posts. I can tell you are a strong, beautiful, kind woman. Almost all of us suffer with anxiety or know and care for someone who suffers from it. Please don’t read this wrong. I am not saying anxiety is easy by any means. It is so hard to convey my feelings in a post.
All I know is you will rock the water park and have fun.
Hey y’all, I’m sorry if my original post was confusing. I have anxiety about pretty much everything! In 2012, my life changed drastically (won’t get into that), and I have spent the past years mostly at home, the hospital, or doc’s office. Going to the mall or water park is very overwhelming in my mind. Of course I wonder if I will look good in a suit bc it has been so long, but I’m not trying to cover up or hide anything really. I went to the doc yesterday and am 105 lbs. I posted my measurements at the beginning of this thread. Thank u for all the encouraging responses and suggestions!
Kemi please repost your picture on this thread. Seems to be a lot of confusion going on here! LOL!!!:womanlol:
Swim suits are scary! At least today there are so many options and styles. For me I always wear separate tops and bottoms (nothing worse than pulling down a wet one piece bathiing suit when nature calls). Sizing is totally crazy in swimwear – not the same as dress size! I wear size large in most HSN brands with a size 12 top (38d) and size 14 bottom (42 “hips). I looked at my swimwear, and both my tankini tops are size 16! My bottoms are XL and 1x.
I look for a long ruched tankini top with criss cross back straps that adjust. I have several plain black high waisted bottoms. I also recommend pull on waterproof shorts/skort to pull on over your bathing suit. If you are just lounging around by the pool, a pretty sarong to wrap around hips is useful. My “uniform” at the beach is a long tied sarong and a long sleeve cotton shirt tied at my waist for sun protection. I usually look for sale items at Kohls every season. I have a Croft and Barrow and a Dana Buchman tankini tops from Kohls that have lasted multiple seasons. Not sure what brand the bottoms are. Search online at Kohls. Lands End also specializes in swimwear separates. I have never tried them, but they have a large selection online. Another online resource is Soma ( a Chico’s company) but they are expensive.
You should really go to a store & try one on as with buying a suit online you just never know the fit & then you would have to send it back & wait some more to order another one. I saw that pic of you kemi- YOU are young, thin & gorgeous girl! WORK IT!!!! OWN IT!!! & don’t worry about the haters!!! Girl, when I was your age, well I am not even going to begin to tell you what type of swim suit I wore, of course I didn’t wear it to the water park, I wore it while sunning on the boat & yes I got looks from the haters but back then I didn’t care 🙂 I just smiled, lifted my can, said cheers & sailed on by waves a crashin!!!!
You are only young once- enjoy it!!!!!!!
I wouldn’t be able to go to a water park as I have never in my life owned a one piece! Tried one on a couple of times & it just feels too constricting. I couldn’t stand it! Now, I don’t go swimming anyway, I don’t even go out in the heat anymore.
Pls Kemi- Go & Have Fun!!!!!!!
Even though you are a small size, you might like the brand “it figures”. I am your age and quite impressed with the fabrics, design and quality. I have 5 of them as we have a pool.
HI KEMIQUEEN!!! HONEY, DON’T BE CONCERNED ABOUT WHAT OTHERS THINK OR SAY!! YOU CAN ONLY CONTROL “YOU”!!! GET BUSY LIVING AND ENJOYING YOUR WONDERFUL LIFE!!! YOU ARE BLESSED TO BE GETTING BETTER, SO GO FOR IT!!!!
PEACE, LOVE AND HAPPINESS TO YOU!!!!
You can do it Kemiqueen! Just put a bigggggggg smile on your face and look directly at everyone there!
And if you hear any snickers or giggles. look at whoever you are with and very loudly say “I love being the center of attention… ‘But So glad I came in disguise, wouldn’t want everyone wanting my autograph when I’m out trying to have some fun!”
Google this one for the photo. I bought two and love it. I tie up one side as a loose hanging sarong and can cover my 59 year old upper thighs stylishly without having looking matronly. Sarong Swimsuit By Carol Wior
Bought mine at soft surroundings.
Whatever you decide to buy, the best place for that is Swimsuits for All. They carry a huge range of sizes and shapes. It is best, like others said, to get something that has either criss-cross or high neck closure that will prevent your top half from being accidentally but fully exposed.
If you are truly horribly self-conscious – which really is weird in a thin person like you – you can buy a water shirt. Best place for them is boys’ department at Target. They are very stretchy. The woman who told me about them is quite breasty and she still fits in the largest ones. So you do not need the largest.
Pro Tip: after you put your purchase in Swimsuits For All’s shopping basket and click on the basket, click away on some other window; the website will think you are leaving and will offer you an extra discount.
CHECK OUT THE OTHER SHOPPING CHANNELS. AT LEAST ONE CARRIES SUITS. BUT FOR HEAVEN’S SAKE DONT GET A “SWIM DRESS”. THEY MAKE EVEN THE TINIEST LOOK FAT! SINCE IT’S A WATER PARK I SUGGEST A ONE-PIECE SUIT (SO THE TOP CANT RIDE UP LIKE A TANKINI COULD.) I’M FAT & REFUSE TO WEAR ANYTHING BUT A NORMAL (NOT DRESS) SUIT! HAVE A BLAST IN THE WATER!!!
I hear you ? about the anxiety issue especially when it comes to bathing suits no matter what your size is! We look at the magazines and see these photoshopped perfect pictures of all the models – it would set anyone into a panic. I went on a cruise with a boyfriend several years back and had to purchase one myself. LOL. Anyway if you live by a mall like someone else said there is a chain called “everything but water” I think. Best to try one on in the store or buy it and try it on at home….:womanhappy:
?, There are all size people at pools / waterparks.
Don’t worry about it, just have fun! 🙂
