does anybody like windows 8.1? I bought the hp lapttop 17.3 for my christmas present (christmas cash), and got it a few days ago. this is worse then vista ever thought about being
i cant do anything with this system… i went to pogo to play a game i….. it wont load the updated java. i removed mcafee ( am installing viper) just so i can load something. maybe it is just me, cause many here seem to like 8.1, but i just want to pull out my hair. i finaly got the video to work
also I have been a system administrator for a dealership for many years and installed every thing and every opeating sytem that they have come out with. I understand that a new platform is something essential to use and get use to… 8.1 is not it…
For 1 thing with windows 8.1 I cannot get the flashplay to work correctly. it seems that eveything is locked down. I have made all the changes suggusted and I still get nothing but a green screen on say, you tube trying to watch a video. I also got the 24 hors 7 days a week supposed help, have tried to call 5 times, set on the phone waiting for as high as 20 minutes and then they dropped the call.
I Love Windows 8 and 8.1! .. I wish Microsoft would stay with 8.1.. … Although I have Dell and I’ve always bought and used Dell – I just saw an hp 17 in. touchscreen that I would buy, but I am determined to wait for Windows 10. … When you upgrade your computer from one version to another, it never works quite properly.
cactusbear– Carlos, Memphis, and Cindy are right, it’s a matter of jumping in an using it. Configuring the computer to boot to the desktop will help. But if you just can’t get the hang of it, there are some free programs you can download that will enable your desktop to mimic Windows 7. Classic Shell is the one I’ve installed on some computers, and it seems to work well, but it really doesn’t give many more options than the Windows 8.1 desktop.
Windows 10 won’t be on the market until at least the early fall, and Microsoft appears to be revamping its marketing strategy (again). Details are expected to be announced at Microsoft’s Build Conference in April, so it’s going to be a while yet.
I like mine. I have a Dell desktop and an HP laptop. Like the others, set them both to boot to desktop.
Exactly what is it you don’t like about yours that makes it worse than Vista?
In a few months they are supposed to be coming out with Windows 10. It’s been in the beta version for awhile and getting quite a few changes based upon feedback, judging from what I’ve read. It is supposed to be more like Windows 7, but I think there is more use of the cloud like with Microsoft Office 365. You can wait for the reviews and upgrade if you still don’t like 8.1, but the suggestions of others to use the desktop version should make 8.1 palatable. Maybe you’ll even grow to like it.
Edit: I don’t know how that extra heading got in the box.
Absolutely do what MemphisVette suggested. That’s what I did and made a big difference!
change it to desk top view and you’ll feel you’re still on 7
