Windows 10 – What the presenters are not telling you.
I recently updated my laptop with Windows 10. Just to let you know that Microsoft messed with Windows Media Player so if you use your laptop to watch movies on DVD, you will not be able to do it anymore. You wil have to install another type of program (if you install the Microsoft program for $15) or find a free one so you can watch dvds. Just thought I would let you know.
I upgraded to Windows 10 from Windows 8.1. Hated 8.1. Couldn’t upgrade fast enough. But yup, after upgrading I found out I had no DVD Player after inserting a disk in my DVD Player on my Latop and nothing happened.
There is software out there for free DVD players that will work with Windows 10. I refused to pay the $15 dollars for their DVD player. I found one that works.
Best of luck to you.
Now I need a decent word processing software program that I can use now and then. Windows no longer includes Works with their software. I don’t use the software enough to buy Office.
I just checked my dvd player on my pc and it works. I ugraded from windows 7 to windows 10 about a month ago. Still playing around with it!!
Saw this thread and figured I’d better check it out an it works. My pc is an off brand bought from Micro Center but like I said it works!!
But thanks for the info, you never know, maybe it wouldn’t have worked and I woudn’t have known what to do.
It might not be necessary to download another program. HP and Dell usually come with other DVD players already installed, so check to see if you have one. Also, some are eligible for a free Windows DVD player from Microsoft, and if they upgraded may already have it.
From Microsoft’s site:
"The Windows DVD Player app is available free for a limited time for people running Windows 7 Home Premium, Professional, Ultimate, Windows 8, or Windows 8.1 with Windows Media Center.
Please note that Windows Media Center isn’t included in Windows 10 and will be removed when you upgrade to Windows 10. After the upgrade completes, Windows DVD Player will download automatically to your PC.
To be eligible for the free DVD Player app, you must upgrade your Windows 7, Windows 8, or Windows 8.1 PC rather than perform a clean installation. If you’re running an edition of Windows 7 or Windows 8 that doesn’t include Media Center and you upgrade to Windows 10, go to Windows Store to buy Windows DVD Player or another app that plays DVDs. Provided your PC has an optical disc drive, Windows DVD Player will play DVD movies (but not Blu-ray Discs)."
