What do you do with your old tracfones?
It’s easy enough to get a new tracfone every year since the deals on HSN are so great. Some of the newer Android phones can be used as mini-tablets — as long as you have wifi, you can do just about everything but make a phone call. But we’ve gotten quite a collection over the years and some of them are not-so-smart phones. What do you all do with them once you’ve upgraded? TIA.
I donate them to the police station or, a local Women & Childrens shelter. Best thing ever to do!!!
"For the Grace of God go I".
Thanks for all your replies. Now I can google with some specifics in hand. I remember at one point seeing envelopes for Cell Phones for Soldiers but didn’t know whether that was still an option. I haven’t seen the bins that some of you mentioned, but I am near a Boscov’s so I’ll ask about it. The county recycling program is picky about electronics but I can look into that too.
I googled Cell Phones for Soldiers and it turns out they use the proceeds from donated cell phones to buy international phone cards for the troops. They don’t send the actual phones, for various good reasons.
I donated my last two to the 911 Cell Phone Bank. They have a box in Boscov’s to drop them off. I’ve donated at the local police station too.
There is an organization called Cell Phones for Soldiers that provides cell phones to service members.
I’ve been wondering the same thing lately! I used to see bins in the library, schools, etc. to recycle them but no longer do. I really need to use that thing called Google. Now I can wait and just check here! :smileylol:
In VT alot of landfills offer free recycling of electronic goods – I also think stores like Best Buy offer similar free recycling programs.
I would make sure to erase everything and set the phone back to factory reset. I don’t put account numbers into my phone
