TP-Link router question
I recently purchased a TP-Link Touch P5 AC1900 router with the understanding that a modem was not required. However upon installation the directions indicate a modem, so now I am confused. Do I need a modem and is that the best (i.e. fastest) recommendation. Please respond asap so that I can get my internet/wifi up and running.
Yes, you need a modem. The modem brings the internet into your home from your provider’s cable, satellite or phone line. The modem talks to the router, and the router distributes the traffic to and from the devices inside your home.
I assume you made this post from your phone and don’t already have internet inside your home? If you do have internet in your home, then you have a modem.
You need internet service and a modem in order to access the internet. If you want to access the internet wirelessly (wifi), you need a router in addition to the modem. They do make combination modem-routers. ISP’s usually recommend what works best with their service, you should check with yours. They should have a web page with that information.
