Toffee o m G How are you? I am glad to see you here. Congrats on going two sizes down. I wish I could go 1 size down:smileyhappy:
To answer your question yes there is a fabric glue, Dritz Liquid stitch. Now the thing is with this is It say you can use it for hemming etc. I used this to do an applique on a sweat shirt for my daughter. Then I did an applique stitch around the applique because I am afraid these type of adhesives might wash out in the washer and dryer even though they are not suppose too.
Now when using an elastic you have to keep it so it can move for the stretch. As for using glue I would think that it would hold it stationary and not allow the stretching movement. When sewing in an elastic the zig zag stitch is used sewn at the top and bottom of the elastic or just sewn at the top Like in a waist band or in cased in the waste band by way of pulling the elastic through the top and then the elastic ends sewn together.
I myself have never done what you are asking about. I have used my zigzag stitch when I in cased a small bit of elastic in to the fabric and sewed on the sides of robes for my dogs. Which I made on my heavy duty.
You could try it and see and even if you do not sew you could always just hand sew a straight stitch in and see how it works out. With all that said. I really recommend sewing elastic in so that it can move and stretch.
The other thing you could do and I have done it in the past is just take the shoulders and fold in an inch or so on the top and just straight stitch it in. If you can do it on these tops. You can still just hand sew it in.
Toffee even though I have managed to do the sewing I have done It is not perfect and I am a perfectionist and it has taken a lot for me to let it go. I sometimes sew and then take it out and do it again and again till I get it somewhat perfect. Like I said in my post sewing 101 that is the beginners level and lots of times I feel that is where I am and have not advanced to where I would like to be. I do not have the sewing gene that my mother had.
With Darlene Cahill’s help from reading her book and foot parade video what she has done and her posting of pictures and with all the pressure feet I have learned a lot and have progressed. Just do not ask me to make a wedding dress or alter it because that is way to advanced for me. I even journal about my sewing so I can keep a record of how I sew things.
I think my best sewing is pillows and table cloths and rod pocket curtains and little pull string bags and easy things. Like I said I do love my singers and although I have sewed on and off for many years. This time in my life I am really trying hard to give it a go and I am mostly pleased with my results at this time.
Hope I have made sense to you here and answered your question.
