I ordered 2 of item #495-906 for my mother and me as stocking stuffers. Just received them today and one of them is completely missing the Cowboys Star logo. I had hoped that it was just loose in the bag and could be repaired, but no luck. It’s simply not there. Of course, now they are sold out. And I used spendable Ka$h on the order. Sigh. Super frustrating. Guess just Mom will have one as the defective one is already on its way back. Boo. :womansad:

Sales tax are due if your state levies sales tax .It should be called a PURCHASE tax . It is a tax on your purchases . It is not a tax on the business that sales the item . When a person files their state tax if they have NOT paid taxes on their purchases by law they must declare that . Then , they pay the state the tax. If a merchant collects the tax for your state , it saves you from having to keep a record of what you have purchased and have not paid taxes on . The tax is not money for the business , it actually cost them money to collect it and send it to the state .
Surely it is easier to pay as you buy because….. no doubt you DO pay your unpaid sales taxes when you file ..…… ???
Some states have became vilagant in collecting taxes on online purchases . Many merchants are REQUIRED to collect the tax .
I know this has zero to do with the select customer subject .
There is certain times a year for special pomotions. I received a Preferred offer but declined to use it. I had no need this item although it was great. Hang in there and just watch HSN when you can.. you never know when a special promo will come like a CAR with a great dealer discount!!!
To answer the questions on sales tax. Each State has their own governing body headed by the Governor. It is through the Legislature and the Governor’s signature that will bring a tax into fruition. Some States feel they are losing tons of $$$ when there is no sales tax coming in from on-line businesses. Some States will not tax a business if they do not have a business in their State. Others will say the business is in their State if it is on-line. Go figure. Then there are States that not only tax you on the item but on the shipment as well. In the State of Florida, HSN has their home. There is also a presence of Yankee Candle in Florida at the Christmas Tree Shops, Mall Stores and Bed Bath and Beyond. Amazon charges tax when they have a warehouse in that State. There is at least one Amazon warehouse in Florida. However, when a merchant is on-line and has no store in a particular State, then a tax is not levied. But on this note, it would be very wise for you to know the tax laws of the State you call home. And, if you are a “Snowbird” that would also include the State you reside in a few months of the year.
I recently received a coupon as a “select customer” for 20% off. On paper that sounded good until I read the small print which gave me only 48 hrs to use it and it would only deduct up to $20 off one item. For most, this would be a wonderful thing, but for me, it wasn’t. I have no idea how one becomes a “select” person for the coupon. Suffice to say I didn’t use it. I have been shopping with HSN almost from their first days and I can remember when a coupon for 20% off one item was exactly that. No matter what I chose it was a full 20% off the total cost of the item. And in some cases it was 20% off your total purchase. Many retail stores offer coupons on-line and also in their malls, strip malls, etc. that are for either one item or total purchase. It’s amazing that a huge on-line business like HSN who can purchase over thousands of pieces of one item or just a few of a one-of-a-kind cannot give a coupon that is really worth something. This has been my main bane and criticism. If you are limiting the coupon, then why not give the customer “spendable ” cash to use anyway they wish within a limited time frame.

I do not personally believe there is really such a thing as a “select customer.” When I recently received a coupon for a “Select Customer” but I could only use it with my HSN credit card – I knew. I do not have an HSN credit card so therefore, how could I possible be a “select customer” according to the coupon? I am convinced that coupons are computer generated randomly.
For months this topic has been discussed and reading all the responses, there is no clear pattern for any rational person to conclude that there is a “standard” that a person achieves and then becomes a “select customer.” New shoppers, old shoppers, credit card holders and non credit card holders just suddenly get a coupon in one of their packages or get an Email.
If there was a genuine means to become a select customer HSN would have been upfront with all of us months ago on how to achieve this status. They didn’t – and they didn’t because their isn’t anything that anyone of us can do to get one of their coupons except wait until your name is automatically chosen by nothing more than random means.
HSN – your coupons have never passed the “smell” test!! Your months of responses have never answered the question that everyone has asked, “who is a select member.” If you had a genuine answer, I’m very sure we would have heard about it long ago. All you have done is create a whole lot of angry customers with your less than honest replies to countless shoppers.
HSN shoppers have made it clear to you we don’t want “select customer” coupons. We want you to give us coupons, like countless other retailers give, coupons that anyone can use and use them to purchase anything we want – not a litany of restrictions you put on every coupon you offer.
For those of us that do not live in Florida, we don’t want to pay your sales tax either! No other online shopping company I purchase from charges me tax when I don’t live in their state except you.

I thought it had something to do with either how much I spent and/or how many purchases I made within a certain period of time. At one point in time I was making quite a few purchases and was continuously receiving the selected customer coupon either by e-mail or getting the offer included in my shipment. THEN I made a couple of purchases over the Christmas 2015 season that I had to return for a couple of reasons (changed my mind, defective, etc) and after that I NEVER received another select customer offer. That’s my experience with it.
I don’t think there is such thing as a select customer.I think they just pick names by computer and offer coupons at times..I have had coupons for new customers on my home page which I am not new so could not use.I think they are totally random.Others I have gotten in an email from a rewards place and did not qualify to use the coupon even though the rewards company thought so,etc..Oh and others straight from HSN to my email and I didn’t qualify so that tells me its not a person choosing people.
i’m not sure what’s going on with this recent coupon mess that i keep reading about on community. it used to be so easy back in the day- which, upon reflection, actually was only a short time ago. what happened???? also, what perturbs me the most, even more than these recent coupon shenanigans, is that hsn has been charging me a lot of tax on everything for the last year or more. before, i did not have to pay tax. do others get charged an exorbitant tax?? i’m not sure who’s handling the finances here at hsn but they need to chill out a little bit. granted hsn’s prices are super- competitively priced but can you please give your loyals a tiny rest??? oh, sigh.. xoxo
I have no idea. I’ve been shopping here for umpteen years, sometimes I get a Select Customer coupon in my email, sometimes I don’t. I guess you could say I’m a sometimes Select Customer. It’s all such hooey.
I think these coupons should be INCLUSIVE of everyone. HSN is extremely stingy, disrespectful, and short-sighted, in this regard as it really aggravates us customers when there’s a coupon out there we can’t use. I know it sure aggravates me!
I mean, what IS this Select Customer-business anyway? It makes you FEEL like a loser if you don’t get one… like you just aren’t held in any REGARD by HSN no matter how much money you’ve spent here. It’s a shameful practice by HSN for it is nothing less than an emotional slap in the face.
I don’t know how the company chooses its “selected customers” for different offers. I suspect (but am not sure) that the more often you purchase, the less need to entice you to buy more.
?, this depends on your own state or municipality. Where you live, do you pay sales tax on clothing items? If so, by law HSN is supposed to collect it. If your locality does not charge sales tax when you shop, then HSN will NOT charge you sales tax on clothing items.
There was a time when online retailers that didn’t have a brick and mortar store in a shopper’s state, did not charge sales tax online. This was true even when they were supposed to charge it and hope the customer who pay taxes on it during tax time. This has not been the case in years.
To further assist you, you should go to your state’s tax site and see what they say about collecting sales tax for online purchases.
At HSN, I pay no tax on anything I order online. If I would order via phone, I am charged sales tax. On QVC I pay tax on everything.
All of our online purchases are taxable. The only difference is if you pay it to the person you buy it from, or you pay it to your state when you file state taxes each year.
