I also was afraid of the electric pressure cooker at first. But finally said "well I bought it I’d better use it". LOL Now love it. I have the Elite 8qt (the earlier model w/o the slow cooker). You can time cook or use the menu feature. My Mom and sisters all used the stove top…I still would not use one of those!
Myra- Hi Please don’t be afraid to use it, I never bought one of those other pressure cookers either as my mom was afraid of them as well. The one I bought had the recipes with it but it also has the buttons on the front for meat, rice, etc to push for what you are cooking to get the exact time. When you first put your food in ( you can even use frozen meat) you push the pressure valve to close, then after the timer goes off to finish you move the pressure valve to open, I assure you just steam comes out no crazy high powered pressure steam or noises. When all the steam releases then you open your pressure cooker. You will see the steam release, keep the steam away from you when releasing, it releases slowly & it is high heat but no loud pressure valve release like those old time ones our grandmothers used. Please let me know how this works for you. I hope you enjoy yours, I really like mine & keeps the kitchen cool in these hot months.
Hi tamrick, that’s exactly the type of food I’m wanting to cook! It all sounds great, you need to share your recipes (if that’s allowed). Now i just need to get rid of my fear and learn how to use it. My mother had one in the 60’s and I was never allowed in the kitchen when it was on and a few times there was a BOOM and our dinner would be on the ceiling.
Funny, the first recipe card was for "Country Mashers", place 4 large potatoes in the microwave for 12-14 minutes, mash with butter and seasonings, serve. :catsurprised:
Myra, I hope you enjoy your pressure cooker. I bought one (not Ming’s if I knew he was going to come out with one I would have waited for his) I bought the one that has been so popular on TV & I must say I love it! I can cook a whole chicken in 40 minutes & chicken wings in 10 minutes. I made green beans, country ham & potatoes in 30 minutes & it tasted & smelled like it had been on the stove all day cooking. Also, I had a seafood boil in 3 minutes with shrimp, clams & lobster in 3 minutes. It is great especially in this summer heat you don’t have to get your kitchen all overheated. I hope you enjoy yours and look forward to hearing what all you have made in yours! I love Chef Ming’s products! Enjoy
