"Oops Bad Address"
I attempted to place an order with an HSN credit card and the order would not complete because of “Bad Address”. I contacted customer service and after being bounced from person to person, I was finally informed that my current address is blocked because of previous purchase in 2008 that was not paid for.
After explaining to the representative that I did not live at this address in 2008 and that no house was even at this address in 2008, she then stammered and became confused and said that it was another address – an order was placed at an address I never lived at.
She then went on to say that because it has been so long ago that there is nothing she can do for me. She said she couldn’t report it as identity theft and it couldn’t be disputed because so much time has passed. She then said the only thing I can do is pay it. That’s extortion. She kept saying that my information was associated through “the public record”. I was then forwarded to a collection agency who would not speak to me because they have no record of my personal information in their system.
I have contacted the bank to close the credit card I opened to shop on this website. I have also filed complaints with the South Carolina Department of Consumer Affairs, the Federal Trade Commission, the Better Business Bureau, and the Florida Attorney General. After reading other complaints, it is apparent that HSN uses illegal colection tactics to get consumers to pay for debts they do not owe. That is illegal practice and violates the FDCPA and possibly the FCRA by flagging addresses of customers who owe them no money.
