My Printer Quit Working
What kind of warranty do I have with the HP Officejet 5740 Wireless Photo Printer, Copier, Scanner and Fax with 1-Month Instant Ink and Software 424-579? Who do I need to contact?
I bought this printer in July. Hooked it up, did a bit of printing, no problem. In September it stopped picking up WiFi. I have tried everything, it just will not work. When I get to the Wireless Setup Wizard it doesn’t pick up. I tried entering it manually. I’ve unplugged everything and reset everything. I’ve uninstalled and reinstalled everything. Nothing.
I have not been home these last few months due to an illness in the family so I just now had time to go through everything and try all the fixes that I could find. I haven’t even used my Instant Ink yet. Since it isn’t connected to the internet, I guess it won’t show up when I put them in the machine.
An HP manager called me today, and he said they will replace my NEW printer with another NEW printer of the same model. If I receive anything other than what I paid for, I will update.
I think HSN customers should be told up front that if they buy an HP (and whoever else has this shady type of "warranty") that your printer (etc.) will be replaced with a Reconditioned (i.e. junk) product. Yours will not be fixed and returned to you. HSN should have some say over how their customers are treated, and if not, don’t sell their shady products. I paid $100 for a printer that worked twice. You, the customer, will not get a new product like you would if you buy locally and/or from a reputable dealer.
Okay, I’m going to call these folks back. I am going to record and document everything. I will write reviews accordingly.
This HP Officejet 5740 Wireless Photo Printer, Copier, Scanner and Fax 424-579 is supposed to print:
Black – Up to 12 ppm (pages per minute)
Color – Up to 8 ppm.
The one I received today: For a half page of text (black, picture below) 0:48. For a half of a color page 1:52.
Now who do I call?
I bought that printer at the end of July, a few days before August. I used it once in August, and once in September before it quit. Twice I used it. My ink cartridges are still full. I have now received a piece of junk that makes a noise like it’s about explode. For $100 I expected it to last a year or be fixed, or replaced with a new printer, not something that’s ready for the trash. Which is where this one is going. Never again. My HP computer is a piece of junk, and this printer is a piece of junk. Back to Dell for me. Never had a single problem with their desktops, or my Lexmark printer.
Oh, and it is the noisest printer I’ve ever heard, and it is SLOOOOW. It gets about halfway through the page and just stops, lags, then it will finally finish printing.
Your printer was NEW in July, and it worked then. Your used printer quit working, and they are replacing it. I do not see the problem.
So, I had to call this company back again. And again was on the phone for for nearly an hour. I received my "new" printer today. But what I actually got is a reconditioned printer and am not happy about this one bit. I paid $100 for a printer that was bad and instead of replacing my NEW defective printer I receive something I could have purchased for a fraction of the price. I really am not happy about this. :smileymad:
This is shady business IMO.
After three hours on the phone on 11/14/2015, and letting them into my computer to check the printer, they said it wasn’t working. The woman I spoke with said they were going to send me another one. She said her boss would call me back (on the day of the calls) to confirm. He never called, the new printer has not yet been sent, and I’m still without a printer.
, I’m sorry to hear that you’ve been having trouble with your printer. I’ve checked on the warranty for you and show that it came with a 1-year manufacturer’s warranty. For warranty assistance on the item, you can reach the manufacturer at 800-474-6836.
EXCEPT FOR MANY YEARS AGO, MAYBE 20 YEARS, I DIDN’T PAY TAXES. SINCE THEN I PAY TAXES WHETHER I ORDER ON LINE OR PHONE IT IN. UGH. :womanfrustrated:
HSN does not charge taxes , most states DO charge sales tax on purchases -sales . HSN does collect the sales tax . All purchases I make on HSN (online or otherwise ) , the sales tax is collected . Either way most people are required by law to pay taxes on items purchased . If not collected at point of the purchase , they are suppose to pay it when they file taxes. It is the law. jus sayin
If you order online they don’t charge taxes. But if you call on the phone they "have to charge tax" .
