Emerson VCR-DVD Combo
Was so excited to get this after watching the presentation.
If only it worked as well for me.
I have a Panasonic Viera HDTV and FIOS. Only when I was having trouble setting the unit up with the HDMI cable for the BEST connection, I called Emerson customer service.
I was then told that I couldn’t RECORD using the HDMI, only play videos. Was told I needed 2 sets of RCA cables to set it up. They told me how, and now yes, the unit works, but I have STANDARD definition on my HIGH DEF TV.
The picture isn’t crisp and sharp, which only means that anything I record or dub from VHS is going to be the same. VERY DISAPPOINTED.
thank you SO MUCH. I’m going to give it a try with an old home video.
I did search, and either overlooked it or it just didn’t ‘click’
I appreciate the help!
Thanks for the info, thisgoesto. I know that upconverting is adding more pixels to enhance the quality. I’m sure that it won’t make SD look like HD, but it should make it look somewhat better,
So, essentially what you are saying is that I can hook up the HDMI cable, insert my home VHS tape and DVD and dub that way? Hopefully…that will do the trick.
Funny though that Emerson CS or the owners manual didn’t say that.
I suggest looking up what upconversion is, and its limitations. There’s only so much it can do. The quality of the source material has a lot to do with it, probably more than anything else. You also might have to tweak your TV’s picture settings.
Using the HDMI cable for playing your videos is the only way the player can upconvert.
You don’t need RCA cables for dubbing because the dubbing is done internally. All of these basic combo players come with only one set because that’s all anyone needs to use it for its primary purpose.
There’s nothing in the presentation or description indicating that TV can be recorded in HD.
If you read the description or re-watch the presentation, it says that the unit has upconversion to 1080p Full HD.
If you can’t record or dub using the HDMI cable, which the manual states is for BEST CONNECTION, why even make a big deal of including it in the package if you can’t use it for what you are advertising that the machine can do?
They sent one set of RCA cables. Emerson told me in order to record or dub I need two sets of RCA cables, one from unit to FIOS box and one from unit to TV.
I’m not expecting a miracle dubbing VHS tapes, but they DO say in the presentation that they will be BETTER when transferred to DVD.
I would also assume that recording live TV to DVD would give me a better product that standard def.
The combo players are manufactured primarily for dubbing VHS to DVD. There’s nothing in the Emerson’s description that says it records HD, and the inputs and outputs are listed in the specs.
Maybe I am missing something, but why would one think this could record things in HD? Certainly VHS cannot do that, and even CDs cannot. Would one not need something like BluRay to record HD signals?
Was this advertised as being able to record in HD, or was this simply a misunderstanding?
I am sorry for any disappointment with this . I will forward this feedback to our leadership team for you.
You cannot remove the banner…HSN will take it off shortly I would think since the shows it was counting down too have started…the "annoying noise" I am assuming you are talking about is the music, there is a cut off for it on the far left hand side of the banner.
