Just woundering when i can see produces for birthday mouth
I think if you searched Food Network and Good Eats you might find the answer.
I do have a dehydrator that is 435 watts and it does not take long to dehydrate food at all. The CS one is only 260 watts.
If you are interested Wally World sells them as well as the other box stores. even Menards has them.
All you need is a box fan, and as many clean furnace filters to fit the amount of food you want to dehydrate, and some bunjee cords.
Just simply line the furnace filters (one one side) and stack them on top of the fan, ending with an empty one…then just bunjee the whole thing together, and turn the fan on.
Brillant! I have a box fan and the real cheap furnace filters at wally world are 3 for a couple bucks! Where were you when I was buying the dehydrator? LOL
Oh that’s too easy!! I’ve never dehydrated before but have been wanting to do it.
Carlos, let me make sure I understand it. You put the food slices or chunks on the filter just like you would a tray? And each filter/tray sits next to each other?
About how long does it take this way?
And thanks for giving me the wattages OldPixie!
Gosh, I’m not sure how long it would take. Probably depends the moisture content in whatever you’re dehydrating. I would check every 8 hours or so…
And yes, you have the idea of the contraption…so easy…right? Tell me if you try it. Tell me how it comes out.
I’ll let you know if I try it. Not sure if I even have a box fan anymore lol.
I did some apple slices on my dehydrator last weekend. They took 5 hours when I did them.
Remember if you are drying something that will turn brown/black when cut (like apples) to first dip them in citric acid (fruit fresh) or lemon juice. Then they will stay white and not look weird when done.
I think you may want to put your food on a cooling rack, a gridded one would work best, so your food is not resting on whatever the filter is made of.
I may get some cheapo filters and try this out.
I think I may have to let this go. My electric bill is already too high. I keep getting letters from Xcel saying my bill is higher than the rest of the neighbors!!! Well I just thought part of that is my oxygen concentrator!!!!
It would take longer to dry for you since you use a swamp cooler too. The swamp makes your air more humid and you would have to dry that out too.
Welcome to the HSN Community, ! Our Birthday Kickoff starts on 7/1.
