KNITTING LOOMS vs NEEDLES
HELLO HSN COMMUNITY YARN CRAFTERS! THIS GOES OUT TO
ALL YOU KNITTERS:
HOW MANY OF YOU HAVE USED A ROUND KNITTING LOOM OR LONG LOOM AND HOW DO YOU LIKE THEM IN COMPARISON TO NEEDLES?
Hi there @twizzle3
I found some information on a scarf made using the Loom.
Here is the Link. Over in the project page here at HSN.
They have some video to show you how in the instructions. Thought this would help with your questions about how to use the knitting Loom.
Your HSN friend
Hello again my friend @cupatea ! 🙂
THANK YOU SO MUCH FOR YOUR RESPONSE AND, OH OH OH THE LOOM LINK!!! I AM SO EXCITED IT MAY JUST BE THE SUMMER (yes, I meant to say ‘summer’) PROJECT MAKER I NEED AND, THE CATS AT THE SHELTER WILL LOVE HELPING TOO. 😆 THANK YOU AGAIN MY FREIND, YOU MADE MY HEART SMILE!!! 🙂 🙂 🙂
I have the looms and my I make a suggestion. I f you want to try them use a small one first to get use to it. I have a large one in my set and find it awkward to use because of the size. I myself use knitting needles and like you I have made scarves and a hat and a crochet purse. Etc
I really only know one knitting stitch. The garter stitch for knitting but I can do a lot with it. Nice to see you here.
Hope you have a great weekend.
Your HSN friend,
HELLO @cupatea SORRY FOR DELAYED REPLY, I WAS AWAY A FEW DAYS. I BELIEVE I SAW THE LOOMS ON A POST OF YOURS AND IT GOT ME WONDERING ABOUT THEM.
MY MOTHER USED TO MAKE US BEAUTIFUL WINTER JACKETS LINED AND FIT PERFECT. WE’D HAVE MATCHING SCARFS, HATS, MITTENS AND GLOVES. THEY WOULD BE ADORNED WITH WILDLIFE AND WINTER SCENERY. MY KNITTING ASPIRATIONS NEVER WENT THAT HIGH!
IF YOU REMEMBER, I HAD ASKED ABOUT WHAT I COULD MAKE OUT OF A SWEATER I KEPT OF MY FATHERS. I DECIDED TO HOLD OFF ON A PROJECT AND DECIDED NOT TO CUT. ESPECIALLY AFTER YOUR ‘HOPE YOU HAVEN’T WASHED IT’ COMMENT. I MAY JUST MAKE A PILLOW AND ADD FABRIC IN FRONT TO FILL NECK AREA AND TIE OR LOOP SLEEVES IN THE BACK.
I HAD ONE OTHER IDEA, BUT WASN’T SURE ABOUT IT. IF I EVER, AND THIS IS A HUGE ONE, IF I EVERE HAVE A GRANDCHILD I THOUGHT OF MAKING A DOLL WITH IT, ONE THAT COULD ACTUALLY HUG BACK. OF COURSE IT WOULD HAVE TO BE SCALED DOWN. WHICH WOULD BE TRICKY WITHOUT CUTTING BUT, NOT IMPOSSIBLE. MY MIND’S EYE IS ALREADY VISUALIZING….
WELL, THANK YOU AGAIN MY HSN FRIEND, I’LL KEEP YOU ‘POST’ED! 🙂
KEEP SMILING – twizzle3 🙂
Good Morning @twizzle3 I hope you had a good time away☺
Yes I remember your question about the sweater. Ha Ha yes I remember my statement to you about washing it. I like the idea of making a doll out of it. Why wait for the Grandchild☺
You could make it for yourself and then when the Grand comes along then you could give it to them.
Anything would be nice out of it☺ You would have to treat just like a fabric cut it up the sides and make it a opened piece of sweater fabric. Then I would think lay out your pattern and cut it out. If you are using a pattern. I also like the idea of the pillow and tying the arms in front or behind it. I am sure you will figure it out.☺ When you are ready the idea will come to you and you will create something beautiful with it.
You have an awesome day My friend☺
Your HSN friend,
@123lucky HELO AGAIN. IT SOUNDS LIKE YOU HAVE A GREAT DEAL OF EXPERIENCE WITH “NEEDLES”.
I HAVE NEVER MADE MUCH MORE THAN LAP BLANKETS AND SCARFS KNITTING BUT LOVE TRING A VARIETY OF STICHES AN CREATING DIFFERENT DEPTHS AND TEXTURES. I HAVE CROCHETD SOME BUT THINK I ACTUALLY LIKE KNITTING BETTER. I USED TO SEW ALOT. IN JR HIGH I MADE MOST ALL OF MY OWN CLOTHES AND SEWED FOR MYSEL AND FAMILY THROUGHOUT MY LIFE.
WELL THANKS AGAIN FOR SARING
I MAY JUST GET MOTIVATED ENOUGH TO GIVE A LOOM A TRY! 🙂
I USE A SPECIAL TYPE OF NEEDLE THAT IS LARGE AND SOME TIMES I JUST USE MY FINGERS.
<strong>HELLO THERE MY FINGER KNITTING FRIEND @jshine ! MY MAIN PROBLEM IS I ALWAYS MAKE THE STICHES TOO TIGHT. WHEN I WAS A YOUNG GIRL MY MOM WAS TEACHING ME HOW TO KNITT I WOULD ALWAYS GAIN STICHES INSTEAD OF DROPPING THEM. MY MOM DIDN’T KNOW HOW I WAS DOING IT AS PEOPLE USUALLY LOSE STITCHES. OF COURSE WE FIGURED OUT THEY WERE SO TIGHT I WAS SPLITTING THEM IN CROSS OVER AND TRANSFER! LARGE NEEDLES ALWAYS SEEMED CUMBERSOME TO ME. ESPECIALLY BECAUSE OF MY PROPENSITY TO MAKE NEAT TIGHT LITTLE STICHES. YOU WILL HAVE TO TELL ME WHAT YOU USED THE SPECIAL NEEDLE FOR, HOW IT IS USED. 🙂
You are so welcome! I have crocheted, cross stitched, embroidered, and sewn for years. I have tried to knit with needles and am very impressed with those that can. I think that needles would be ever so much more versatile. Looms are rather relaxing but you would still be able to produce something pretty and useful.
Hopefully someone with more experience will reply to you.
HELLO AND THANK YOU @123lucky I HAVE ONLY EVER USED NEEDLES. I WAS THINKING ABOUT GIVING THE LOOMS A TRY AND I WAS CURIOUS AS TO VERSATILITY AND IF PEOPLE FOUND THEM GOOD FOR SPECIFIC PROJECTS ONLY. SOME HOW I CANT SEEM TO WRAP MY LITTLE BRAIN AROUND IT ALL! I GUESS IT SOMETHING BEST EXPERIENCED. THANK YOU AGAIN, ENJOY! 🙂
I haven’t used either in a while but I enjoyed the looms more than the needles. My hands just don’t seem to work like I want them to when I use needles. LOL. For me it was faster to use the looms for hats mostly.
