HSN Crafters How do you like Spectrum Noir products?
Hi Crafters of HSN,
Did anyone buy the the Spectrum Noir markers when offered on the craft show on the 11th of May? They had several sets on but I missed out. I was going to order the biggest set with the marker holder and dvd then they sold out. I was wondering if anyone of you crafters here in the community bought any of the Spectrum Noir sets.
These are the items I am now interested in purchasing.
- How do they compare to other brand of Markers used for Coloring and detail work on cards etc.
- I would like to know how do you like them and did you get any dried out markers in your pack?
- Have you colored out any crafts or cards with them and how do they blend?
- Have you watched the dvd yet that came with the markers and or the pencil kits?
- How do you like the dvd?
- How do you like the marker Stackable Storage tray?
- Did you order any refills to go with your markers?
- Have you been to the crafters companion site and how did you like it?
I also like the pencils too. I am looking at the biggest set that is still available here on HSN plus the Marine set.
I am thinking hard on buying the 72 Spectrum Noir markers set for 99.99 + tax +S&H and the case and the pencils. It could come out to over $200.00 with tax and S&H USD. It is a big expense for me.
That is why I am asking how the crafters that have these coloring markers and pencils like them and are they really worth it. I loved watching Sara Davies demonstrate them and thought what nice colors and how very colorful these markers and pencils are.
I am not sure if anyone who bought the big set offered that day can do a review because they sold out in a hot minute. I would love to read a good review about these markers to get a better impression of them from folks here at the HSN community.
If you did purchase any of the Spectrum Noir Alcohol markers or pencils please share here your thoughts and how you like them or did not like them. I would really appreciate it.
Thank you for taking your time to read and share your information about Spectrum Noir.
Your HSN friend,
Hi all you spectrum noir coloring marker and pencil people,
I am just doing another update. In one of these posts I mentioned that I got to view the dvds via a dvd player hooked up to my tv.
Well to just update you all because I had a problem with viewing the dvd and the customer service rep for Spectrum noir was sadden by that. They sent me a true black pencil. How is that for customer service?:smileyhappy:
I think it is great. I also see that the set that Sara Davies demonstrated with Adam Freeman is back up for sale. I missed out on that one.
Happy coloring everyone and hope you are all enjoying your markers and pencils from Spectrum Noir.
Your HSN friend,
Getting back to my updates about Spectrum Noir Pencils and alcohol markers.
Have gotten to watch the videos via a dvd player on my tv. I did have to purchase one as I did not have one. Customer service was very helpful in their suggestions. However I only use windows products that come within windows operating systems so windows media 12 will not support the files for these videos.
I did my fabric test and used a bit of lace ribbon and the blue marker I used did a great job. I also tried it on a bit of cotton fabric and it colored very nicely. There is bleed through to the back side and you can not wash the fabric once you have colored the fabric so it can be used on a tote bag or something that will not require washing.
To my surprise I tried a Spectrum Noir color pencil and it did work on the same cotton fabric as well.
Again do use it on a fabric item you do not plan on washing unless you can find some kind of sealant for the item. Again tote bags and items that do not require washing.
The videos are very helpful and informative to someone new to this kind of coloring and blending as I am.
If you are a card maker or scrap booking which I am not these are great for that purpose.
I will use these to hopefully make some craft sewing items and use them to color with on paper or canvas or something like the tote bag I made using my Scan N Cut.
I like the print outs that you get with the videos and have printed out one so far it is the Seahorse. I just printed that on regular printer paper and have started to use my pencils for that. Very nice and colorful. For the printing if you have windows paint or photoshop or some similar you should use that. I had my prints open up in windows picture view and I found out that the full picture did display nicely. Some of the prints where cut off. I went into my windows paint program and reduced the size and it printed out perfect.
I also left my 5 star review so go read it. If you have these and want to chat about them and let me know what you are using them for and what you have created I will love to hear about it.
Thanks for reading and happy coloring.
Your HSN friend,
Just an update on the markers. There is not a dry one in the bunch of 72. Oh and you do get a blender marker to blend the colors to get a washed out look. They are very bright and colorful.
The grays are transparent and would work very nicely for adding in water in a vase design. The blues are very nice and I think you can get a beautiful sky and water effect. Reds and Pinks are perfect for pretty flowers greens are lovely for leaves and grass and where ever you need a green color.
Light colors and some dark colors for beautiful skin tones and hair awesome browns for tree trunks and dirt for ground and where ever you need a brown color.
I could go on about the yellows and oranges and all the colors they are what they say and I am very pleased with the paper that came with the markers oh no hard bleeding on the back of their paper. Very very nice indeed.
I am still waiting to see if I get a fix for my video problem. I did here from Crafts Companion and they have sent my inquiry to a tech savvy employee. I will wait it out to hear from them.
Well thank you all for reading if you have these markers I hope you enjoy them as well as I think I will when I go to use them.
I almost forgot yes they do color plastic very nicely. I just did the head of a straight pin that has a plastic pearl top. Oh my I used a pink color and it colored it really nicely it looks like the head of the pin came that way no joke.
How exciting to see the markers colors more then paper. I will try out some fabric next and see how it colors.
Your HSN friend,
Good Morning all you HSN Home and Crafter fans,
I just wanted to up date everyone on the Spectrum Noir Markers and Pencils I bought from HSN.
First off I got them last night. My lovely little UPS man dropped them off around 6ish or so. How is that for shipment. I think it was very good and speedy considering I ordered them last Friday the 22 of May and we had a Holiday besides.
The pencils are lovely, I did a test scribble and was reminded that I am light handed when it comes to drawing or coloring in. Meaning I have a light hand touch as opposed to heavy handed. Really pretty colors on the pencils.
The markers I have not opened yet. Reason is because I read on the Crafter’s companion site to let them rest before you use them. So no real comment here yet about the markers.
I decided to watch the videos and get an idea of how to color with the pencils and the markers, because I got a video with each set.
I put the pencil video in my computer dvd drive as these videos are dvd. Low and behold I could not get either of the videos to play. What I could do was go to My Computer and look at the sample files and look at the print outs but could not watch the videos with the lovely Leann Chiivers.
I am using windows media 12 from Microsoft. Upon looking at the back of the video case I noticed Minimum system requirements for resource folder: operating system windows 98 second addition and 128mb ram and Mac compatible.
I am using windows 7 professional 64 bit and my ram is 8 gigs. I also tried it out in Windows media Center and it did not work there either. The problem is Windows media and windows media center does not support the files that are made for the videos. I am wondering if these files will only play on a dvd player that is hooked up to a tv. I do not have one anymore. With all this said if you have these videos and are using windows media or windows media center go look for an update to windows media I am going to do that and see what I can find.
I was expecting to give these markers and pencils a 5 star review. I have not done my review as of yet so I will post back here if and when I get these videos up and working.
I am disappointed in the videos not the pencils and not sure about the markers.I just hope the markers are not dried out as that was one of my concerns as I do not know how long these markers have sat on a shelf and what the shelf life is. So we will see when I actually open the markers mind you there are seventy two markers.
Here’s hoping to get things up and running and coloring,
Your HSN friend,
Good afternoon everyone,
I just wanted to update here about my Spectrum Noir markers and pencils that I bought from HSN.
They have shipped yay I cannot wait to get them. I am glad to know they are on their way.
I will let you all know what they are like when I get them. I will do my review and then post about them here. I am so excited to get them:smileyhappy:
Your HSN friend,
Update: I just bought the markers and the pencils. The marine pencils were sold out so I will have to go to the other place that has them on sale and buy them there.
Thanks everyone for helping make this decission. Now to go buy my other items for my brother scan n cut so I can get free shipping from the other place.:smileyhappy:
Your HSN friend,
I have ALL the Spectrum Noir markers and I LOVE them. Unfortunately, I did not buy them from HSN, so I did not get the DVD (sells for $14.95) which I would love to own. This $99.99 is a great price. But I had to have ALL the colors…brights. darks, pastels and lights so I bought All 4 Spectrum Noir 24-Pack Pen Sets (Item# 109155) direct from Hot OFf the Press. These sell for $179.79 but once a year they offer a 30% off coupon so I got them for $125.85. Divide this by the 96 pens and each comes out to $1.31……a real bargain, especially when Copics sell for over $5 each. HOTP also sells the refills. I love their products and am never disappointed.
I did order the pencils (426-503) to try. Mind you, I am not at all artistic but figured the DVD would help.
I also thought that the pencils were good for me to try, control wise (stay, within the lines!) and that they wouldn’t dry out over time, if I’m not using them often.
What I want to do is start making cards…bought some stuff during the craft day (some clear stamps, adhesive tape, washi tape, had already ordered a 3 Birds box) and picked up paper (etc.!) at the Bullseye Store.
Have watched a few videos on YouTube…Crafter’s Companion has a lot of videos there (as mentioned by Sara). I like the card concept of layering the different colored papers, cut into various shapes and then having a simple stamped message on one of the paper shapes (looking at stamps on the South American River site…I could go wild!)
Then I just have to take the time to site down long enough to make something.
