Stop forcing magazine subscriptions on me
This is yet another sale that HSN is missing out of. I really like the TSV but I don’t want or need the magazine subscription. Give me an option to opt out when I check out online. I’m watching more and more of the other network because they don’t force magazine subscriptions on me. So many things I would have bought but haven’t. I shouldn’t have to call or mail in some stupid card.
I DONATE my magazines to my hair salon, library, and certain doctors’ offices. Claim the donation on your taxes.
I couldn’t agree more. So tired of filling up my recycle bin with these mags.
AND even worse IMO — Just now HSN is running an hour long infomercial regarding insurance policies for Aetna in PRIME TIME! Absolutely RIDICULOUS! Guess they were offered a "finders fee" they couldn’t refuse for any HSN customers who request the policy information. MAKE IT STOP HSN!
And .. It is Not just the Magazine subscriptions. It is the .Com online Subscriptions – Particularly when we purchase electronics such as computers. They call it ‘Extras’ . Yes they Are Extras .. Extra $ for Them.
They don’t mind giving you a Refund, because by That time, the damage is Done! They have your information and your Information is worth Far more that the refund. – (at All Networks).
It’s just a racket. HSN has likely distributed subscriptions in the millions this way for which they are being compensated handsomely for essentially doing nothing so they’re never going to stop. It’s like asking TV to stop running commercials. Most of these magazines would disappear tomorrow if HSN weren’t forcing them on their customers. My guess is at least 80% of customers would never subscribe to any of these magazines on their own, and no more than 10% of customers who receive the subscriptions would have the patience to jump through the hoops it takes to actually wring a refund out of them, so it’s a HUGE payday for everyone involved except us. I finally got my refund after 4 months of run around between SELF magazine and HSN each claiming the other was responsible for issuing the refund. I am still receiving the stupid magazine even though it’s been cancelled for 5 months and goes straight from mailbox to the trash.
My takeaway is that it’s far too lucrative an endeavor for HSN to stop doing it, so my only solution is that I will never purchase another item that has a subscription attached to it no matter how much I think I want it. Personally, given the choice I’d much rather pay $8-$12 more for the item than have to deal with a year of unwanted junk mail.
I totally agree. They are a nuisance. I sent in for my rebate because I didn’t want it and they said I didn’t submit the right form. I got it from HSN. She told me to call another phone number because she couldn’t help me and guess what that was the phone number I called her on. She didn’t even know what number she’s getting calls on. I stopped purchasing when I see a magazine included.
Oh, this is a sore subject with me as well. I consider magazines junk mail. Very annoying.
I don’t mind a magazine subscriptions per say, but I don’t need or want Glamour, etc. These type of magazines cater to the younger set and I’m baby boomer. Lately the subscription starts before you even get a chance to send in a cancellation. The last time, Self magazine came before I even received the product I purchased. Instead of the subcription starting automatically, you should have to send a card if you want the magazine or even better yet – have a box to check off at the time of ordering. I glance at these magazines when they come, then they go immediately into the recycle bin.
It is the Information Age and People’s Information is a more valuable Product that are manufactured merchandise. We Are the merchandise, and so they sell us and our information to magazine and their advertisers. In turn, the magazines sell us further down the river.
They are selling Us. – Names, addresses, type of credit card, buying habits.
LOL, free? Well they market it as such but in all reality, you are paying for it. It’s all about corporate sharing of your info and getting you to re-subscribe to these magazines that are nothing but 80% advertising.
People should not be forced into these so called "free" subscriptions.
Please "share" this on scambook, twitter and other "sharing" social media sites.
This is something that has been discussed a lot. HSN does not care, or they would not force a magazine subscription on us when we do not want it. I won’t buy anything with a forced subscription. I don’t have the time to deal with sending a card, or calling for a form either.
Totally agree. They are promoted as "free subscriptions", but nothing in this world is really free. Someone somewhere up or down the line has to pay for it. Usually, the price is hidden in the cost of the item purchased by the consumer. If the "free" subscription was not included, the merchandise could be purchased at a lower price, because the vendor would not have to include the price of the "free" subscription in the price of the merchandise. Otherwise the vendor or HSN would lose money. And we all know "that ain’t gonna happen". I don’t want "free" products included in my purchases. If I want the additional product they are offering, I will ask for it. Forcing the merchandise on me as a supposedly "free" gift with purchase only forces me to either not buy the product at all, or go to a lot of unnecessary trouble to cancel the subscription. Really, HSN do us all a favor and stop this "free with deal’. I too, am simply refusing to buy from HSN under these conditions. Very irritating.
