new trac phone
has anyone purchased one of this trac phones..Im thinking of getting for my grandson.. If you have wifi at home can he use this without eatting up the minutes while surfing the net.. ? Im just not sure if this would work as good as say straight talk with unlimited use.. thanks
I bought the LG Sunset last TS and I really like it a lot. This one looks the same but for a bit less money.
If you use this phone on with a wifi connection your data allotment will not be affected but as said below viewing things with pictures, videos and graphids WILL eat your data quickly. The total amount of data offered with this package is miniscule. If this is for your grandson I would suggest looking at the major carriers.
You are correct. If you are using the phone on a wifi connection, you will not be charged for data usage which includes surfing the net, checking email, downloading apps, and running apps. Even on wifi, you would still be charged for phone minutes and texts. I just read Shingo’s reply — I didn’t realize that photos/images included as part of text messages would be charged as data, but I only use texting for, um, text.
I’m not familiar with straight talk unlimited, but compare the rates of that plan with what you’re getting with this phone. Tracfone may be less expensive but it depends on how you use your phone.
Learned a valuable lessons with my parents and Tracfone. MMS (multimedia) messaging uses data even when on WiFi. SMS (plain text) messaging uses just your texts (no data or min) whether on WiFi or not.
Mom ran out of data quickly and couldn’t figure out why as she is always on Wifi. Then we found out that all those pictures/videos of grandkids were taking data every time they were sent/received as part of a text message.
