Neat Desk Scanner and Desktop – DO NOT BUY! Read below
I bought the Desk Top version Sept/Oct 2014 and gave up – SO MANY problems – then read later on that NeatDesk was NOT prepared for Windows 8.1. So I returned and paid the cost of that defective mess. So then last month I saw the handheld scanner – AGAIN – wasted 7+ hrs last night – the disc that came with it does not download onto your computer ALL the necessary components. So I removed ALL of that from my Programs/Hard Drive and went to their website where I read on the internet before hand, about ALL the THOUSANDS of problems they had with customers and Windows 8.1 and they should NOT have released their product before fixing isues. So I then downloaded the software needed to operate the Neat Desk Hand Held Scanner from their OWN website – Neat Desk – and everytime I clicked on the icon on my desktop it shut my entire "Windows" program down – and every thing else that I was working on – what a mess! I spent HOURS. The HSN & Gold Concierge Service you are supposed to receive since you purchased from HSN – means you can call in ONE HOUR EARLIER Mon-Fri – that’s it – that is the GOLD STAR CONCIERGE SERVICE! WOW! One whole hour during very limited hours – Read the reviews – the ones who are having success must have older computers; but I have an 8 month old with Windows 8.1 and it is apparent, as what the articles I read from PC Magazine, Consumer Electronic Show, Electronic guru’s – these products are NOT equipped to run on current software! DO NOT waste your money, time and then hassle and more money to return! STEER CLEAR
Plus they are always cheaper on that auction site any day of the week!
I also learned today when the Post Ofc would not take a return labeled box NOR would UPS – that there are now items on HSN that are NOT part of the EZ Return Label Program and you are on your own to ship it back – this 3 lb box will cost me $11 to return – a small 7x8x5 inch box with a camera and NOWHERE on the Panasonic camera HSN item page does it state that it does NOT participate with the "HSN RETURN PLAN" – so apparently more games are being played by HSN and we, as consumers, now have to wonder when they tell us how easy it is to bring it into our home, try it out and then use the EZ Return Label – that is NOT TRUE at all! Ethics, morals and values are out the window.
Always check the internet for pricing, as more times than not I am finding BETTER prices elsewhere – and now – with BETTER and ACCURATE return policy stated. If HSN has a Return Policy in writing – they should ABIDE by it. So you may purchase this Desktop scanner and then have to pay $20 to return it – not at their reduced cost – BEWARE. If you have a newer computer – they are not equipped to work with newer Windows programs and you will have an expensive paperweight on your desk!

Also regarding Return Shipping–I think that each item should be labeled as to whether it is part of their EZReturn either at our expense or not( I think if you use an HSN card they pay return shipping). But if neither type of EZ Return Label is applicable to the item being sold and you are completely on your own to foot whatever the shipping would cost, then it should be mentioned and showing on the screen during TV presentations as well as be prominently stated on the website page for that item. This is important because the hosts alway make such a big deal out of the EZ Returns and implore you to get it home and try it.
I can only imagine the expense incurred to return TV’s, mattresses, furniture and large exercise equipment. Thanks for bringing this to our attention. Sorry you had to learn the hard way about the NeatDesk Scanner and the not-EZ Return.
Unfortunately I ran into the same thing when I returned the Nutra Bullet. I was tootally unaware that there was no EZ Return Label Program for this item. The cost to return it was almost $30.00 and believe me, I’ve learned my lesson, I’m not doing that again. I would expect HSN to clearly show on the screen, on the website and during the presentations that your ‘on hyour own’ for returns.
