I DID THE UNTHINKABLE to fix Joy’s pillows!
When my vibrant sage color became a dark, dingy and dirty gray I went ahead and cut the side seam so I could wash the cover!
I didn’t know what I’d find inside but I figured even if I’d ruined the pillow it was ok since I have 6 more.
So if you’re willing it’s totally doable, washes in cold water and dries (in the dryer) like a dream, stays as soft as it was new plus the colors don’t fade or run.
I have sage, bright teal and platinum and even did the travel pillows!
I’ve washed them at least 5 times.
At first I just used long basting stitches to close them up but have since put velcro strips and it’s perfect.
Two things: the pillow inside is covered with a delicate foam like material and can tear if you tug or grab it too hard when taking it out of the case.
If you do decide to use velcro make sure to close the velcro shut when washing and drying or it will stick to itself or other items.
AND if you’re handy sew a zipper in!
It would have saved you some trouble if they’re had been a zipper in them. 😉 I probably would have did the same thing,My Mom always told me if it wasn’t broke that I would “clean it broke” ?? lol Nice to hear it worked for you! 🙂
To save the delicate foam like material I put the pillows in another thin
case with zippers to protect them when taking the pillow out of the
velvety and cool side pillowcase to wash.
It’s sooooooooooo nice to sleep on the original covers and be able to wash them!
JOY, if you’re listening please make a pillowcase just like the pillow covers!
Great Idea, I am so going to do this. Thank you for posting. :smileyhappy:
You are very brave! :womanhappy: Thanks for the tips.
