Frustrating Coupon "rules"
I received a $10 off $30 coupon with a recent Order and was declined when I tried to use it. In the card that came with the coupon it said it was for new customers but the coupon said "for selected customers" with no other explanation. Since it came with an Order I assumed that I could use it and was FINALLY considered "select" lol. Sadly it was declined. If the marketing genius who thought I would pass on this coupon to a potential new customer is listening, the tactic did not work.To the contrary, it caused me to decide not to place my order. With a "it’s fun here" motto I would think HSN would be more lenient with existing good customers to give them a few dollars off more often without all these annoying "rules!"
I understand that it can be frustrating to get a coupon that you can’t use. I also understand how we can each feel like we are a loyal customer and should get a coupon just like a new customer. The problem is there are millions of loyal customers and if they all or a majority get a coupon the company doesn’t make money.
It is a very common business marketing practice to give new customers some kind of discount or break to reel them in and turn them into loyal customers. Virtually every cable and dish type TV company does it as do a lot of phone companies etc. A lot of online retailers send a coupon when someone signs on to their web site for the first time or after the first purchase. So what HSN does with their coupons is really nothing unusual.

So sorry to hear about your coupon, I have never received one in the mail in over 15 years, but I did get a few times sales for geico car insurance. When they had the spin to win coupons, I loved the Free Shipping or a few dollars off on my purchase, there are so many rules and regulations you must follow with those coupons, and right now, they are only giving points for spin to win for the arcade games and prizes. I hope you contact them to make sure you were using it properly, make sure the date and your purchase is not for clearance.
