Crossbody Bag – Do NOT Wear It That Way!!
VERY dangerous if you ever get attacked by a purse snatcher. Put the strap on your shoulder, NOT across your body. NOTHING in your purse is worth getting injured. I’m going to share my story, in hopes it will save someone the trauma I suffered, due to wearing my purse across my body.
My husband and I were on the way home, and I asked him to stop at a subway to get a sandwich. We both went inside together. I wasn’t feeling well, and decided to go wait in the car. I went back outside, alone and without my husband. Within a few seconds, I heard someone running up behind me.
I never had a chance to respond before he attacked me. He grabbed my purse with so much force that it knocked me to the ground. But because it was across my body, he wasn’t able to grab it and run. When I went down, he came falling down on top of me, never once letting go of my purse. He got up and began forcefully pulling and yanking my purse, with it still wrapped around my body, and now wrapped around my neck. Finally, he was able to get the purse off of me, and away he ran with it. It seemed like an eternity, but was probably only a few minutes.
My husband heard my screams and came running outside to me. I was bleeding from being cut, and I had a broken arm. I had 3 lousy bucks in my purse, and the trip to the ER cost me over $300.00. The theft was never caught.
NEVER again have I worn a purse across my body! It’s on my shoulder, where a thief can grab it and run, and NOT injure me in the process of robbing me. I hope this helps someone to avoid what happened to me!
What a horrible experience you had, justwanthelp! I hope no one here ever has to go through what you did! It makes me rethink carrying a purse at all! I always wear a crossbody bag, but hold it closely to my side. It’s in a dark color and rather inconspicuous. It would be difficult for someone to grab it from me, as I’m tall and try not to be an easy target, but I’m sure it could happen. The world we live in today is not as safe as when I was growing up, sad to say.
Everyone, I think JustWantHelp needs assistance in posting photos – per bottom of the page. If she still wants to do so, can someone please assist her. (I’m a little deficient myself in that area).
The good thing about TS and many Cross Body bags is that the strap is adjustable to be carried different ways.
I started wearing nothing but crossbody bags when my Mother became ill and I needed hands free to help her while out. I continued to use them until today. I am so sorry for what happened to you and I hope that you never experience anything like that again. By telling your story, justwanthelp, you may have saved many lives. Thank you.
Justwonthelp, So very sorry to hear about this traumatic event! I hope that you are no longer having nightmares from this.
And thank you for telling your story. I hope this helps others from getting hurt.
Wow, that’s horrible. I’m glad you are here to tell the story.
I was thinking, you could even “test” this with a trusted friend or family member, preferably somewhere not in public. Put your bag across your body, and have them “pretend” to try and snatch it. Have them do it in “slow motion”, and without any force. You will see, almost immediately what I’m talking about. Tell them to stop as soon as you realize the situation this puts you in.
Of course none of us want our purse stolen, but if a thief has his mind made up to steal it, and especially if he’s high on drugs, he WILL get your purse. Let him have it!! Honestly, I’d rather write him a check than let him hurt me, lol!
My attacker carried a knife, and that’s how I got cut. I was lucky my injuries weren’t any worse than they were. I think most of them probably aren’t out to hurt you, they just want your purse. BUT, if they have to hurt you to get it, they won’t hesitate to do it.
Thanks for sharing your story. I am so sorry you experienced this. I hope everyone will follow your advice. I know that I will.
I’m going to heed what the OP said.
