SCA Butters Makeup
For anyone using this makeup what works best prior to applying the makeup so that it will not “pill” up?
Example: primer, moisturizer, another SCA product?
LOVE the “Butters” make up but you do have to make sure you are not dry or dehydrated cause it will tend to crease or kind of “stick” to dry patches if you don’t prepare the skin right. You do have to make sure to use a primer that “matches” and will “play nice”! As the other poster said an emollient makeup doesn’t go well with a water base primer. Adrian has GREAT moisturizers that go under. I like using a serum, like the Vit C or the Argan, or even a retinol or other capsule, then I like a moisture with a sunscreen. Using your fingers helps the makeup “melt” on and blend nicely, if I notice any little areas that need smoothing I take a makeup sponge and kind of “pounce and bounce ” it around all over my face and it seems to make everything nice and even. As long as you are moisturized (you don’t have to do too much or it will make it slide off!) and if you want to use a primer just get one that has same chemical make up as the foundation (like if it is a water base, or a silicone base (it will have things with “cone” endings in the words) or a combination of emollient and silicone) then it should “play nice ” together. As Adrian said you might try the “CLONE” primer ! The primer just helps to smooth and make the make up go on nicely AND usually stop that DREADED PILLING! Hope that helps!
I have the SCA butters makeup as well as the small jars of Vitamin C and Argon Oil and they are my favorite makeups ever. They last forever probably because the secret for me is using just a tiny amount on cheeks area. They cover instantly and give a wonderful glow that looks like it comes from your own skin. I use all of them over any well absorbing moisturizer and follow with a touch of Adrienne’s stick blush. I think all her makeup is amazing. I like some of her skin care but she outdoes everyone with her makeup.
@candron, pilling can happen for various reasons. Uneven skin can cause pilling but solved by using an exfoliant. Application of products are another reason. Because of how our skin care routine products absorb into our skin at different rates, a thin layer of products is better than a thick layer. Also, if a product is oil based and applied over an oil free product, it’s a recipe for pilling. Last, the product ingredients may lack enough emollients for your skin and as it soaks in during wear, it pills up. It’s a challenge to figure out the exact cause because what pills up on me, might not do the same on you. I highly recommend a good primer regardless of which brand of cosmetics you use. You might be lucky and get a response from Adrienne. It’s not uncommon for Adrienne to post in the community. 😁
At this time of year, your skin may tend to be a bit drier than normal. You may need a touch of moisture – Argan Oil and Baobab is always good or like southernlights55 suggested, maybe a primer can help. Have you tried “Clone”? So many love it as a primer.
Hi bobzi! Glad you love my makeup.
Adrienne, thank you so very much for your gracious reply. I am 70 and have thin, dry skin but my wrinkles are not very deep yet. A couple of sun spots on my face as well as light redness and freckles. I have loved your products for a long, long time, but just haven’t known what product to use on my face prior to the butters makeup and whether to use my fingers to apply or a wet or dry sponge. I have been using your Vit. C capsules, Vitamin C products and have tried the retinol capsules. I have your 5 essential cream. So many products so I don’t know which ones to put on my face prior to using the butters makeup. Thanks in advance for your advice.
There ya go! You’re amazing Adrienne!
