OH NO! I have "contact dermatitis"
I couldn’t figure out why I was getting read blotches on my face. Primarily, near my mouth, nose and chin. I went to see my dermatologist. She diagnosed it immediately. “Contact Dermatitis”. After going through a battery of tests for allergies…I found out I’m allergic to the pollen that’s common to this area. (We just moved here in February when there was snow on the ground). I use only the best products on my face…they work! Of course, like many of you, I also have concealer if needed.
This problem persisted for weeks before I went to the Dr. She prescribed a corticosteroid cream. It’s strength is 2.5%. It can be used for 2 weeks. I’ve been using it for 1 week thus far and notice a favorable difference. However, the problem is not gone. I’m always super careful about hand washing, etc etc. That being said, I cannot figure out a way to avoid what’s in the air around the area we live. Any advice or suggestions from those of you that have been through this would be deeply appreciated.
I’ve never had a skin problem, not even as a teenager. I rarely use a foundation…as my skin’s always been in great shape…until now. HELP! :womansad:
I used to get contact dermatitis and got the corizone cream my doc blamed it on laundry and dish detergent. They would not do alleegy tests.
Flash foward several years massive breakout all over my arms with nasty scars as a result..found out I had Celiac DH.
Good luck to you 🙂
I think I’m going to have to find a new doctor, after reading your experience with contact dermatitis. Mine totally shamed me for even coming in when I had it (and she did formally diagnose it as such).
I want to say thank you, again, for all your support and advice. It’s been several days since I’ve been online. It’s been as if a civil war has broken out in my house over the most unimportant things. Of course, this has added a layer of stress that no one needs. However, it’s given me the impetus to go to visit my Mom in Atlanta for a while. I’m taking my laptop with me (and my dog). My hands have been doing better, yet, with all the driving ahead, I’ll wear my hand braces for extra support. You ladies are as a life line. I’m profoundly grateful.:heart::heart:
Also, Philosophy has a no make up make up The Present, this will give you a barrier and finish, you could even add some hydrocortisone cream into it. You are not in an area where there could be GMO crops are you?
Try taking detox baths, there are many good videos on YT. I have been all over this one personally, developed severe skin sensitivities late in life, Drs mis diagnosed. it is an allergic reaction to basically everything, but a good deal of the aggravation comes from the outdoors. Are you bright red rashy on checks and splotchy?
After 2 weeks and still not much of a positive change in my skin…I went for my 3rd consultation with a well known dermatologist about 2.5 hours north of here. WOW! I’m glad I went. She did ‘skin scrapings’, blood work and tested for an additional array of allergens..sent it to the lab while I waited. I was gone all day long. To make this shorter, she allowed me to see there was an additional allergy I was unaware of until today. She put me on an oral medication and a gel (to be used once a day) on the affected areas of my face. I had called my friend in NY (also a dermatologist). She’s the one that recommended the Dr I saw today. Sooooooo, again, I need to wait for hopefully positive results. I was told it’ll be about a week to see a change. Yet, after all I’ve been through to this point…a week doesn’t seem so long..
In the mean time, my whole house has been steamed cleaned top to bottom. Mattress and pillows sanitized, etc etc etc. We also had purchased a good brand air-purifier (as several of you ladies suggested). THANK YOU LADIES!!:heart::heart:
Today, due to wind, outside it was like a fine yellow haze over everything. I came right back in the house. Yesterday, I used my steamer (again)…sanitized mattress, washed all pillows (hottest water recommended), steam cleaned floors, carpet, draperies. Still more to do. ALL suggestions you ladies have provided are enormously helpful. I’m believing that if there is anything else, yet, to be discovered that caused this problem…it can be found out and solved. Many times I’ve said that we’re stronger together than apart. Every life touches every other life. (((Hugs to you all))):heart::heart:
Lady4Peace, unfortunately I have no tips to offer. I do want to send you well-wishes, and I hope that the suggestions from the others work for you. :smileyhappy:
Unfortunately, I do not know which air purifiers r the best. Mine is a Hunter Quiet Flo, which was handed down to me, so it is older. My father has a new mini one by germguardian that stopped his nosebleeds. I’m sorry I don’t have more info, but I do think it would be worth doing some research.
That is crazy how this happened now when u have been all over the world in undesirable conditions! Our bodies do the craziest things. Oh, when I mentioned air purifiers, I’m not talking Joy’s FLO, lol. I’m talking professional quality w big filters, but I’m sure u knew that ;).
THANK YOU to all that have responded. I wrote down all your suggestions. It’s a huge encouragement to have heard from so many of you. I’ve learned so many valuable tips from you ladies on many issues…which is the reason I asked for advice regarding what’s going on now. Plus, sharing issues makes them not feel so heavy…nor isolated. If I could reach through my computer and hug all of you, I would!:heart::heart:
? U poor thing! Lots of good advice from peeps here! These thoughts came to my mind:
– Know that when choosing skincare that “hypoallergenic” is a marketing label that any brand can slap on their product wo regulation.
– Ru having the other symptoms ? mentioned? Is pollen really the only culprit?
– Have u changed the air filter at your new home recently? Can u invest in some air purifiers for the rooms u spend the most time in?
– The tricky part is going outside. In Japan, ppl wear doctor’s masks in public, and nobody looks twice.
– Perhaps allergy treatments will be necessary, which ? mentioned.
I am praying that u find comfort. My hope is that u will develop an immunity after living there longer. Plz keep us updated.
As so many have mentioned it isn’t easy to clear this up. I get it from newspaper print, gardening and certain laundry and bath products. I only use unscented soaps (laundry and bath) and wash my hands frequently. Do keep a moisturizer on your face to act as a barrier. vacuum and dust frequently. Did the doctor recommend and antihistamine for when you are outdoors? Good luck and let us know how you are doing.:womanhappy:
THIS COULD COME FROM PERFUMES BODY LOTIONS JEWERLY CONTAINING NICKEL. TRY CERTIFIED ORGANIC BODY LOTION . I USE ORANGE VANILLA BODY LOTION ALOT BY SUZANNE SOMERS .GET THYROID CHECKED ONCE A YEAR . IT IS THE FINE CONDUCTER OF ALL THINGS IN THE BODY .
I too am suspicious of your diagnosis. Not that your are not allergic to pollen, but that it is causing the specific symptoms you mentioned. You didn’t mention watery eyes, sneezing, stuffy nose, etc. which usually goes with pollen allergy. I assume you are allergic to pollen since that is what the test showed, but I don’t think you should stop looking for something else you are coming into contact with that might be aggraviting the area that is now more sensitive. Have you changed tissues? Household cleaners that might get on your hands and then you touch your face? Nail polish or polish remover? A food that you might grab bites of to snack on without having to wash your hands afterwards? Does your hair fall in your face and you push it aside and then touch your face. Have you changed toothpaste? Mouthwash? This all may lead no where, but my daughter-in-law went through something similar and one day it went away forever and we never did figure out what caused it. She still gets stuffy when the pines release pollen. I know you are miserable. Try a health food store and ask their advice if all else fails. Good luck, Lady4Peace.
