Ladies…who remembers Maybellines blue mascara
I had to have it again, nostalgic I guess. I couldn’t find it and ended up having to order Guerlains, any economical hacks for this one? I always liked how it popped the eye, nothing I have used compares, it was a neat sort of blue illumination in that product.
WOW! This brings back a lot of awesome memories. I surely remember the blue mascara…and used it to the consternation of my Mom. 2003 I was in Turkey (inside airport). There was a ‘duty free’ shop that actually had blue mascara! I wasn’t into wearing that color any longer. However, I thought it be fun to bring some back for my sisters and a few gal pals. I purchased 12 of the blue mascara. Everyone was thrilled with the mascara. A couple years ago, I bought a tube of Sapphire blue mascara. Gorgeous color…yet, it didn’t look good on me. Thanks for the great trip down memory lane.
My fav is Christian Dior’s. It goes on better than Maybelline’s and is waterproof.
The Blue Mascara and liner pen from Benefit in the “They’re Real” line is a great deep Royal black blue! The mascara and the liner match exactly. AND it is WAY less expensive than Guerlain! I wore both on Memorial Day to my son’s house for a BBQ with a big group and when I got there my daughter in law said, Oh I like your makeup! (the blue made my brown eyes look really bright, plud I matched it with a natural rosy pink/nude blush and lip so my eyes stood out against a natural healthy color). We went out to look at her garden and were standing in the sunlight and she looked at me and stuck her face close to mine and said, HEY! OMG! Is that BLUE mascara?? and I started laughing and said Yes! She said, Your eyes looked really good inside, like they stood out, but in the sun I can see the deep blue! It is kind of like and Indigo color, but I have been wearing it every day and actually find it isn’t harsh and makes the whites of your eyes whiter. Lancome used to make this gorgeous slate gray blue liner and I am trying to find a liner that looks close (I don’t know if they make the French Blue or Gray Blue anymore) to wear with it. I couldn’t beleive when I read about the old little red box of cake mascara!! I remember that! You had to hunt it down when I was a young teen because it was hard to find but it really gave you thick, full lashes. Of course because you used water to mix with it and brush it on, it would run if your eyes watered (so we used the tube with the brush) but it did look good! It made up for that awful white frosty lipstick!! hahaha! OMG! and YUCCA DEW shampoo! LOL!!
Blue is stunning, especially on dark brown eyes. Maybelline was my favorite mascara yrs ago. I wore briiight blue eyeshadow every day my sophomore yr of hs. your post takes me back…
Does anyone remember white lipstick? Yikes!
OMGoodness yes, I remember the Maybelline Blue Mascara! I missed the school bus more than once because I did not have enough mascara on. When I was in high school (yes, we had High Schools in the days of Noah and the Ark…..haha) if I could still lift my eye lids easily, I did not have enough mascara on. You knew you had applied just the right amount of mascara when you could barely keep your eyes from watering. Ah, the good old days of “natural beauty”.
Now, dig this…do you remember the Sugar Pink lipstick by Avon?
Man, we girls of the 60’s were looking good with our “frosted hair”, Sugar Pink lipstick, and Maybelline Blue Mascara. Of course, the whole look was accentuated by the dark blue eye liner which way applied in such a way as to give a slanted cat-eyed look. When we applied Jovan Musk Oil perfume after slipping into our mini skirts and matching tops, we were good to go (unless Mother saw us, then we had to revamp our look to suite her taste…which was quite different from ours..)
By the way, I still “miss the bus” on a lot of things…keeping track of my thoughts, locating my car keys, getting my bill fold out of the refrigerator, etc. But I no longer have to worry about “frosting” my hair. Nature took care of that. I find I am quite suited to the platinum grey shade of natural frosting. And no, before anyone faints, mini skirts are no longer an option or consideration. Mini skirts and sensible shoes just don’t jive. (haha)
Cool Thread! What memories:smileyhappy:
Yes, I do remember that blue mascara! I used to also buy the purple and gold colors. I loved the way it made the eyes look. It really wasn’t prominent. It brought out the flecks of color in the eyes.
Cody foundation was my fave. And, I loved the Cody lipstick. I used to always buy this particular shade of pink. It was almost like a fuschia color, and it came in this adorable floral tube. I loved it.
How about the Clairol Herbal Essence Shampoo? I used to wash my hair everyday with that stuff.
Yes, I remember the blue mascara. I never wore it. I didn’t like the way it looked on my olive/tan complexion. My BFF used to wear it, and it didn’t look good on her either (same olive/tan complexion.). I thought it looked better on fair-skinned ladies especially with light-colored eyes.
I’ve always been a brown-black to black mascara/eyeliner gal. I do like navy eyeliner, but I have never found a good navy eyeliner since Lancome put one out back in the day.
I also remember my Mom using mascara out of the small red compact. She would dip the brush in water and then the cakey mascara and apply away. It made her small eyelashes pop.
I also remember the “Gee, Your Hair Smells Terrific shampoo.” I remember Farrah Fawcett’s shampoo and the Breck commercials. Wasn’t Jaclyn Smith a Breck girl?
Good memories, y’all.
yes am not sure if they still sell that shade? Am from the old school. LOL. Like to match my eye shadows to my liners, and also mascara..
Am using a pretty blue one from La-Colors. Have several other shades of mascara’s as well….
Even with my sensitive eyes have not problems.. How can you go wrong with cost of $1.00.
I always had a tube of Maybelline Brownish/Black & a Blue Mascara!!!
And I remember the little red plastic box of mascara that came with a mini toothbrush-like tool..
Anyone remember: “Gee Your Hair Smells Terrific” Shampoo??
And mood rings???? I even found a bikini that came with a mood ring face that held the two cups together!!! Hahahhahahah!!!
I remember it and I used to wear it all the time. I also remember Revlon’s Moonstone lipstick – it was a true white which was very popular in the 60’s.
You ladies are making me feel my age. I do remember the blue mascara, I’m so old I was using mabellines mascara when it came in a little red box and you had to add water!!!..Anyone remember tha shampoo Yucca Dew? Such a blast form the past.:womanlol:
Oh my, you are going way back, only gives you a clue of how young I am. I still remember Wella Balsam as being “the best” hair conditioner. How about the ole Born Blonde? The good ole days. :smileyhappy:
OMG! Reading all these memories from “back in the day”! I couldn’t believe all the things people remembered! I remember Camay soap!! Remember 10-0-6 Bonnie Bell skin toner?? Noxema on a sunburn? I LOVED the blue mascara! In fact I now use Benefit’s “They’re Real” Blue mascara AND the blue flex tip liner pen and am hooked! In fact I just ordered more! I remember as a teen using “Love” perfume (the FIRST AND ORIGINAL) for YEARS, until it was finally discontinued and they brought out “Baby Love” which I didn’t like. Neutragena pump bottles of liquid face wash, (LOVE) body oil, lotion, Herbal Essence shampoo! which was brought back not long ago! And Jean Nate` STILL going strong! LOL! NOW…who remembers using a lighter on the tip of your Maybelline liner pencil so it would go on creamy and smudgy? hahaha!
