I Give Up on Eyeliners!
I have been buying a lot of eyeliners the past several months. I have bought pencil, gel, liquid, from here, from department stores, from drug stores. Everything smears on me or just wears off. I have hooded eyes so I’m wondering if that is the reason? I didn’t have this problem back in the day when I wore the liquid liners with wings. I guess I am going to have to just put it on my waterlines and forget about the top eyelid. For awhile i wore lash extentions so I really didn’t need liner on the top lid but the lashes drove me crazy and irritated my lids. I hated the appontments and itching and cost. Are there others like me who can’t keep liner on? How do you compensate? I always loved my liner.
I, too, am Blonde; & have a hard time w/eyeliners. Til I found TooFaced’s “Sketchers” felt tip eyeliner pens. Goes on easy (shaky hands), allergy-free, & nice Colors. I do tiny up/down marks in lashes & Smudge. Looks natural, & stays on! Also, for Brows: the very best is “Ready To Wear” Brow Extension. Comes in Light, for us Palers, & easy to put on. Made of Vegetable/seaweed. HSN sells it.
Pammy google Benefit Brow Bar Texas and see if they have a brow bar near you. It is really great to get a tutorial and color match done in person by a pro. My mama did this and I have to say again she and I both wish we learned the art of eyebrows years…ok decades ago. :catwink:
They can look really garrish if you don’t know what you are doing- which is the problem I used to have. They usually have eyelash tinting there too. That does burn like a……… son of a gun too but not for days and there is no lingering burn after an hour or two-
Once you get the brow thing right, the shape and color you will love it! After a while I took my eyebrow shade to the tattoo make-up gal and she matched it just right so that I did not have brows that were too dark. Mind you they are darker for the first week then you would want, then they scab and peel and you are left w/ the color you wanted. But nevermind the tattoo part for now, see if you have a Benefit nearby.
I’ve been meaning to try again w/ falsies (eyelashes) but I’m really quite a clutz and in the past it has been like my own personal episode of I love Lucky! :catlol:
Pamlou, I don’t have hooded eyelids so I don’t know if this is what might work for you. The funny thing is, I use some very expensive makeup brands but when it comes to eyeliner, I first line my upper lid with Almay eyeliner crayon contour pencil and then I put Maybelline liquid lineworks Ultra-Liner WATERPROOF liner over it. It doesn’t budge on me. I also use Latisse on my eyebrows to fill in some sparseness and dab the rest on my already long lashes. Most times I don’t even want to wear liner. I agree with kemiqueen about the eyebrows. I love a stronger eyebrow and long lashes. It does the trick for me!
Pammy, I also have hooded eyes but am still able to use liner. It sounds like you have oily eyelids since you have tried so many brands and still have a travelling problem. Are you using a eyelid primer followed by finishing powder before applying eye makeup? There are some great videos from Sugar Puff and Fluff. The tips for hooded eyes videos are simple (if you already wear eye makeup) and really work. This is how I do my eye makeup everyday. Check it out!
I do ok with eyeliners except for the inner corners where it never holds. I’ve gone to Sephora and tried them all – they work but melt away towards the inner eye. Allergies don’t help the situation.
I don’t need it anyway because I put on eyelashes, have done so since my 20’s. If you do that you don’t need eyeliner. And you pull them off when your home – no irritation. Also you might want to give the Lanome eye shadow color singles a try.
108-931. Each one is 21.00 but I only use 2 or 3 colors and they last forever. They are fabulous!!:womanvery-happy:
Pammy many of us can relate! I’m going to try the revlon one that thisgoes to11 mentioned below.
I did eyelash extentions too- what a pain in the beepin bleep!:catfrustrated: I can’t believe I endured that as long as I did :catsurprised:
I got semi permanant eyeliner tatooed by a pro of course and I loved it! The propblem w/ that is that it hurts going on and only lasts a few years- but one of these days when I’m not in enough pain w/out adding more I will do it again for sure! The pain was high but not through the roof and it is over quickly since it is just a small area.
Another good idea is tinting the eyelashes. That also does not last that long but gives you that I woke up this way added eye enhancement- you have probably tried it eh?
Kemi being the pro is spot on about playing up the eyebrows. :catvery-happy: That was really lacking for me, I just thought it was over my head- well I can tell you it is not rocket science as I thought it was and makes that huge difference that the pros swear it does!
I have good luck w/ the eyebrow pencils from It and Laura Geller. But my mom who over plucked back in the day LOVES Bennefit – I think it is the Build a Brow. She says that product is the very best for filling in what is not there and staying put. Mom and I also have very hooded eyes that get worse as time goes by.
I loved the look of enhancing my eyebrows so much that I got them tattooed- They look great and the color is very natural- no one can tell except one friend who used to be a makeup artist. I did not get a very dark color, it blends in w/ my blonde hair but if I want a little more drama I can can throw some pencil on over it.
If you go the tatooed route did up as many reviews on yelp or whareever that you can as this is not the time or place for a bad job!
I find if I line the inner water mark on the top eye it makes my eyes look smaller so I don’t ever do that.
Good luck Pammy!
Hey Pam, I would skip liner on the top lid and play up your brows. It is going to be very difficult to keep top liner in place w hooded eyelids – you’re right about that being the reason why it smears. How do u wear your eyeshadow? Does that smear on the lid too?
I definitely can relate. I’ve had good luck recently with Revlon Colorstay pencils. I tried them after seeing the 4.6 average rating on Walmart’s site. Each comes with its own sharpener and smudger. I really love the smudger because I don’t care for sharp dark liner on me. Avon Glimmersticks are good too.
I’ve given up too. I can’t find one that is easy to apply and stays in place for more than a few hours. And I could *never* get the knack for tightlining or waterlining. I’m too uncoordinated I guess lol, and my eyes are too sensitive.
