do not buy tracfone service

I have had a couple of tracfones & their service is really, really bad...
do not use tracfone for any reason--even their safelink program is seriously lacking.
I do not have long distance on my home phone, & tracfone refuses to give me a tel # that I can dial from my home phone, it is long distance to call my tracfone cell, for crying out loud! So if there is a problem at home, and i am away, no one can call me from home...and people who call my cell have to use 1+area code+ tel. #.

Please pass this around...do not use tracfone...
Their customer service is just as bad as the program, if not worse.

RE: do not buy tracfone service

I have no idea what your problem is, but I have had 2 Tracfones for the past 5 or 6 years and never have had a problem with them. Only had to contact CS once when I switched my minutes over from my old phone to my new. I couldn't be happier, and I know 8 other people with Tracfones and they love theirs too.

Maybe it is you, not the Tracfone. ](*,)

RE: do not buy tracfone service

I've been using Tracfone for years even back when they had analog phones.....I'm very happy with it...Granted I do not use it everyday...so its great that my minutes roll over...and I don't text message...I buy a 1 year card...to keep my phone # and I do buy minutes throughout the year...it is fine for my needs..I am severely technology challenged...I only have a few dead areas in the mountains...but no cell phone would work in these areas..My kids have expensive big name plans..all the bells and whistles..when they visit here they have "0" bars..Tracfone..never a problem...

RE: do not buy tracfone service

I've also had a Tracfone for several years with no problems with long distance calls. I really have very little need for a cell phone so this type serves me well. Like another poster mentioned, I don't understand what you are talking about Lynneann.

RE: do not buy tracfone service

I have used a Tracfone for years. I only use it for an emergency. Take it with me when I leave the house, go out of town or vacation. I don't even turn it on unless I need to make a call. Since Lynneann only has local service on her home phone she cannot call her cell phone since she does not have long distance on her home phone service. I don't have long distance on my home phone either only local service. I use a Magicjack for my long distance calls. You might think about using a Magicjack. You can make local or long distance calls with it. I bought mine through Q & paid about $40 for it. After that it is $19.95 a year for service or you can pay $59.95 for 5 years service.

RE: do not buy tracfone service

I've used a TracFone for at least 10 years. No problems-ever. I don't understand why your tracfone is a long distance call from your home phone. That's not the way it works. Your tracfone no. and area code are based on where you live, just like your home phone. I'm sorry to say this but, the truth is something doesn't ring true with your story. The reception is usually better than with other cell phones as each company uses only their own towers. Tracfone doesn't have their own towers and use those that belong to the other carriers so, there are more towers available to tracfone users. JMO

I agree - something just doesn't add up with the original poster. I don't have long distance service on my home phone either and I have no trouble calling my Tracfone from my home number. ](*,) Doesn't make sense, when you first activate your Tracfone you tell them your location and they give you an area code for that location ](*,)

Sorry you're having problems w/ TracFone. Recently I switched my wireless service from Net10, TracFone's sister company, and encountered some difficulties in porting my number, but apart from the obvious language barrier that exists when dealing with their CSRs and a new SIM card (that was lost or never ordered), there have been no other issues.

You're probably aware that TracFone does not have its own cell towers; it leases space from VERIZON, AT&T, SPRINT, etc, thereby ensuring coverage in approximately 95% of the continental U.S. That applies to the pay-as-you-go and SafeLink services, therefore reception shouldn't be a problem.

When you activated your service, did you give them the zip code where you intended to use your TracFone most? If not, perhaps you should call Customer Service 1-800-867-7183 and inquire about changing it now to facilitate receiving calls from the same area code assigned to your home phone landline. That should resolve difficulties involving local verus long distance calling and the additional charges you've incurred. If you don't get satisfaction, request that a supervisor handle the issue. S/he will probably connect you with someone in Tech Support. If it remains unresolved, you can escalate your complaint by going to the website and clicking on the Customer Service or Contact Us link on the bottom of the homepage; that will take you to a form that goes directly to the Executive Resolution Dept. Complete the form and you'll probably get a call from one of their e-mail specialists within 24 hours with the answer you've been waiting to hear. That was my experience.

There's probably an effective and easily available solution to your problem, but you may have to invest a little time and effort to achieve satisfactory results. Please inform us of the outcome. Good luck.
